The Montgomery County Executive’s Ball came into being when Sid Kramer became Montgomery County Executive in 1986. Sid’s wife, Betty Mae Kramer, instituted the event as a way to raise funds and visibility for organizations working to support the arts and humanities in Montgomery County, Maryland.
The Ball was instrumental in putting these organizations on the map for the first time in the County’s history, and has taken place annually in December ever since. Since its inception, the Montgomery County Executive’s Ball has become the single-most significant social, political, and philanthropic event of the year in Montgomery County. It brings together politicians, the business community, philanthropists, and the arts and humanities community, who all join in supporting, sustaining, and promoting the cultural assets in our community.
Thanks to the participation of so many of the area’s leading companies and individuals, the 2016 Executive’s Ball: “Movers,Shakers, Builders, Makers” raised over $160,000 for arts education programming in Montgomery County. Funds were distributed to 80+ small, medium, and large arts and humanities organizations, from theaters, museums, and chorale groups to dance and literary programs.
Since 2007, Montgomery County’s First Lady, Catherine Leggett, one of Bethesda Magazine’s 2010 Women We Admire, has led the organization of the Ball.
Dottie Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Auto Malls, will team up with Mrs. Leggett to co-chair the 2017 Executive’s Ball,“And the Beat Goes On!” to raise funds to advance arts education in the County.
With this dynamic duo at the helm of the 32nd Ball, this year’s Ball will surely be one to remember! Be sure to mark Sunday, December 3 on your calendar!
